I didn't beat my best time.
It was sad. But there's really nothing to expect. I didn't do anything new with my training, so beating my time will be out of luck. Anyway, I am still happy because I'm injured free, I still felt strong after the race, and I made it to the cut-off of 6 hours.
This was my first out-of-the-country race and I immediately notice a big difference comparing with Manila races. We arrived at the venue 1 hour advanced of the starting time. It was dark and most of the tents are not yet set up. It took us some time to see the baggage tent. We saw a few Pinoys also joining this year's race.
The first 3kms was in the Angkor route. It was dark and though there were trees and it rained the night before, the temperature was humid. The seen changed as we reached the main road with yellow street lights. After that was a long high-way with trees on the side or the road. And then more trees showed as the road leads to the residential area. This had been an advantage to runners as it become more pleasant to run with this kind of scenery and atmosphere.
I can't remember exactly, I think it was half of the way when children from schools started to appear and cheered for us. Water stations, I think was enough but I don't like their energy drink. It was Revive Isotonic carbonated drink by 7-up. There were also green bananas.
I keep a good pace until 26kms (6:50/km), but I get tired and slowly get away from my friend ahead. I continued and still hopeful to catch up, until at least to maintain my current PR. But as I approached the last 5km, my dreams were shattered. It was a muddy on the side of the road and running in the middle of the street is neither an option, because the vehicles may kill me. So I walked this very long 2-3kms. I got distressed because I thought I can catch up, and then I didn't.
It was not my lucky day. But it has to be okay.
That tiny medal is worth 42kms! Thank you marathoner friends! :) |
